Pablo Picasso’s ‘Profile de Jacqueline’ ceramic plaque depicts Picasso’s final and most prominent muse, Jacqueline Roque.
Jacqueline worked in a sales position at the Madoura Pottery in the South of France when she first met Picasso in 1952. The two forged a relationship that would last until Picasso’s death in 1973. Over their 20+ year relationship, Jacqueline would appear over 400 times in Picasso’s two dimensional work and many times over in his ceramic oeuvre.
About the technique:
'Profil de Jacqueline' (A.R. 383) is a white earthenware ceramic plaque featuring black oxide and white glaze, with a diameter of 8 inches, conceived in 1956 and executed in an edition of 500. Stamped 'Empreinte Originale de Picasso' and 'Madoura Plein Feu' on the reverse.
